What is an URL ?

URL means "Universal Resource Locator"... humanly said, it's a character string which representes the address of a WEB page or of a file (for example, an image). Why should I reduce my URL ?

Some URL can be really huge (hundreds of characters). The RFC (RFC2616 for the specialists) does not say what is the maximum size, but, on this site, we have limited to 1000 characters... So, if you have to send a huge URL by email, it should be easier to shrink it to make it more easy to read. For exemple, imagine this :

I've heard I should shrink my affiliated links... why ?

When you ask other people to subscribe to a web site to build your downline, you should insert on your own web site or on your blog an affiliated link like these : http://www.affiliatingsite.come/?referer=me. When someone subscribes by clicking on these links, he is registered in your downline.

Is is mandatory to give my email ?

Of course not, but you should ! If you give your email, you'll receive the short link, but also another URL which will allow you to modify the shrinked URL in the futur. Furthermore, if you want to get an hard link, the email is mandatory.

How hard links are managed ?

Only the first 12 hard links are displayed. And only activ links are displayed. So you can improve visibility of your web site just by using www.pteelien.net as often as possible.

How long my short link will be availlable ?

The short links are automatically erased 6 month after their last use. For exemple : imagine you've created a link on februar 23th, 2006. This link is regularely used, and then, from the june 12th, 2007, no more clicks are registered. Your link will be destroyed on december 13th,2007. Of course, if only one click is registered on december 12th, we restart for 6 months more !

How can I see all the short links I made ?

If you gave us an email address when creating the links, it's easy... If not, it's not possible...

You will receive by email the list of all your short links, with, for each of them, the number clicks received and the validity date.
